Two Sensible Ways to Enjoy Cannabis without Smoking It

Not everyone wants to smoke cannabis to enjoy the medicinal benefits it offers. There are many that prefer vaporizers or edibles to avoid the harmful effects of smoking. Yes, like traditional cigarettes, cannabis smoke also contains tar. Like everything else in life, smoking cannabis comes with its own cons. Vaporizers allow you to ‘smoke’ cannabis sans the ill effects.

What other sensible way to enjoy cannabis?!

In fact, many tobacco smokers are shifting to vaporizers that are available in a myriad of flavors. While normal vaporizers contain e-liquids that contain nicotine, herbal vaporizers require e-liquids that contain THC. You can make both the edibles and e-liquid, and I’ll show you how.

How to Make THC E-liquid at Home

E-liquids are nothing but a mixture of Vegetable Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, nicotine, and flavors. The easiest way to make a THC e-liquid is to grab some THC extract like cannabis wax or shatter.

You’ll also need some premade juice that has no nicotine. Melt the extract with a double boiler and mix it with the juice in a 1:1 ratio, and you’re done! While this method is easy, you may not gain access to all the ingredients.

So, if you want to make an e-liquid using fresh bud, you’ll need to grab a few things such as:

  • Food-grade 190 proof alcohol
  • Cannabis buds
  • Propylene glycol (PG)
  • Vegetable glycerin (VG)
  • Strainer
  • Coffee filter
  • Glass jars
  • Thermometer

You can replace the PG/VG with Propylene Glycol or PEG 400 because it helps to dissolve the cannabinoids effectively.

Firstly, decarboxylate the herb on a baking sheet at 220F. Break the bud into smaller crumbs and freeze it for an hour. Use another empty glass jar and freeze it as well. Now, take the jar containing the herb from the freezer. And, pour the alcohol on the herb until it’s fully covered. Stir well and freeze it again for a couple minutes.

THC E-LiquidRepeat the process a few times and shake it well each time. Place a coffee filter on the empty jar. Pour the herb along with the alcohol into it. Repeat the steps using a strainer as well. The more the number of steps, the cleaner the extract. Now, evaporate the alcohol by placing the mixture on a double boiler. Keep the temperature stable at 60 to 80C or 140 to 175F to prevent burning the alcohol. Alcohol is flammable, so do NOT use anything other than indirect heat. Once you’re satisfied with the texture, take it away from the heat and let it cool. You now have an extract that can be mixed with PG/VG or PEG400 at a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio.

How to Make Cannabutter

Another way to enjoy marijuana is to consume it as an edible (like hashcookies). For that, you’ll need butter infused with THC or Cannabutter as it is fondly called. It’s pretty easy to make your own cannabutter, for which you’ll need:

  • 1 ounce of top-grade cannabis
  • 250 grams butter
  • Parchment paper or baking paper
  • Baking sheet
  • Water

Set the oven to 220F or 105C to decarboxylate the cannabis. Break the herb into smaller chunks and let it sit in the oven for at least 20 minutes. Make sure that the herb doesn’t burn. Next, fill a pot with about 5-6 cups of water and mix in the buds. Let it simmer for an hour. Add butter and turn the heat down to its lowest and stir well. Allow the mixture to simmer for 4 hours and remove from heat. Strain the mixture and let it cool. Repeat the process of heating and cooling to increase the potency. You have your own cannabutter, so enjoy!
